An Overview of St. Moritz
The town of St. Moritz is known as one of the most luxurious and prestigious ski resorts in the world and is considered to be the ‘home away from home’ by the rich and famous because of its chic, vibrant and elegant setting. This charming luxury holiday village is located in the Upper Engadin area, somewhere in between the regions of Zurich, Milan and Munich. These regions inspired and formed a town with a very diverse culture, mostly influenced by its Romanish, German and Italian speaking population.
St. Moritz acquired its popularity because of its healing mineral springs, which have been recognized and appreciated for over 3000 years. It then slowly gained the reputation as one of the top destinations for ski holidays because of its location and naturally breathtaking snow-capped mountains that are perfect for skiing.
Getting To St. Moritz
There are several options available for those en route to St. Moritz:
By Car – If you will be coming from Switzerland, the only pass that is open during the winter is Juliepass. If you are coming from Klosters or Davos, you can take the car train from Klosters via the Fluelapass. If you are coming from Italy, you can pass through Bernina or the Maloja.
By Bus – The Post Bus is currently the bus service of St. Moritz and it departs from Chur and Lugano. The last bus trip from St. Moritz to Chur is scheduled to leave at 11 pm. While riding the bus, you can enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery and admire a lot of charming Swiss villages. Reservations may be necessary especially during the peak season.
By Train – Take the SBB train to Chur after arriving at the International Airport Zurich. From there, take the RHB train over the famous Albulapss to St. Moritz. The trains are scheduled for departure from Chur to St. Moritz at an hourly basis. The last trip scheduled to depart from St. Moritz to Chur is at 9 pm. St. Moritz is also the starting point for the well-known Glacier Express and Palm Express trains.
By Air – The airport in Samedan is located around 5 kilometers away from the town of St. Moritz, which is around 20 minutes of travel time. The airport provides flights to the international airports of Milan, Munich, Geneva, Basel and Zurich.
